What’s the purpose of the flags in my yard?

The flags or colored markings in your yard are part of a government program designed to protect our nation’s infrastructure. When you see these flags, they’ve been placed by a utility company to help identify the exact location of underground utility lines. By submitting an 811 request, utility companies are given the proper time to assess the work site, mark the utilities, and prevent damage, ensuring employee safety and the protection of essential services. These markings guide our team during construction to avoid disrupting any underground utilities and safeguard your property.

Why are there utility boxes being placed around my community?

Utility easement boxes are being placed around your community as part of the fiber internet construction process. These boxes serve as access points for the installation and maintenance of the fiber optic network. They allow us at AireBeam to connect, manage, and repair fiber cables safely and efficiently without disrupting the surrounding area. These boxes are typically located in easement areas, which are sections of land that utilities have the right to access for infrastructure purposes. By placing these boxes, we’re ensuring the long-term reliability of the fiber network and making it easier to maintain and update services.

What does "easement of passage" or "right of way" mean?

You may notice marked areas in your community where we will be working. These are utility easements, which give us access to a small portion of your property to install and maintain our fiber optic lines. While we have the right to use these areas, the land remains yours. Utility easements are permanent and stay with the property, even if it’s sold.

In these areas, utility easement boxes may be placed. These boxes are essential for accessing and servicing the fiber lines, ensuring your connection remains reliable.

You may also hear the term “right of way,” which refers to public spaces like streets, sidewalks, and even utility easements, where we can install and maintain infrastructure to provide seamless service for the entire community.

If you have any questions about easements, right of way, or utility boxes, please feel free to contact us!

What does the fiber construction process look like?

The fiber construction process involves several key steps:

  1. 811 Process: Before construction begins, we submit an 811 request to mark existing utilities and ensure safety. This allows all utilities to assess the work site and avoid any damage.
  2. Pre-DCT:A technician will visit your home to review the 811 markings, determine the best path for the fiber lines, and discuss the optimal placement for the FET box. This is where your router will be installed inside your home, so it’s important to choose a central location near an available, less-used outlet.
  3. DCT (Drop, Cable, Trench): The fiber line is installed by trenching or boring a path from the utility easement to the FET box on your home, following the agreed-upon route. Fiber is pulled from AireBeam vaults and handholds into the utility easement. The fiber conduit is then laid through the path to the FET box. Once the installation is complete, the path is buried and fully restored to its original condition.
  4. Fiber Installation (Final Appointment): A technician will terminate the fiber cable and set up an Optical Network Unit (ONU) to convert the optical signal to a standard RJ45 connection. The technician will then connect either an AireBeam router or your own device. They will also assist with connecting devices like TVs and tablets and show you how to use our app for better network control.

If you have any questions or concerns about the fiber construction process, please don’t hesitate to reach out! The construction process may vary depending on location.
